Wine, Whiskey, Writing
It’s a tale as old as time, girl follows her passion and goes to school for creative writing, girl can’t find a job with her useless major (although, I swear, I’ll finish that novel one day), girl takes a cashiering job at her local liquor store. Funny how temporary jobs can completely shift the direction of one’s life sometimes. When I started at the store, I was single, living with my parents, and hated the taste of alcohol. Five years later I’vegot my Bourbon Steward and WSET 2 certifications and living with my boyfriend of nearly two years whom I met at the store. In the last five years I’ve worked in a fast-paced large liquor store, a small wine boutique focused on organic and biodynamic wines and have even worked on the distribution side of the industry, selling to stores and restaurants. I’m currently looking for my next adventure, but I’ve fallen head over heels for the wine and spirits world and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and grow in this industry.
I don’t want to let my writing muscle wither and die however, so this blog is going to be a way for me to combine my two loves. I’m not sure exactly what kinds of things I’m going to write about on this blog but there will definitely be wine write-ups and maybe some stuff on sprits and beer and even a little bit of original fiction inspired by the things I drink. I’m not big on pairings, don’t get me wrong I know there’s a science to back up certain wines tasting better with certain foods and vice versa but I believe in drinking what you want when you want to. If you really like Cabernet and aren’t really a fan of white wine, why should you order Chardonnay to go with your chicken just because a Sommelier tells you to? So, if you’re looking for insightful pairings…well mine are going to be a lot more haphazard in nature. All the same, I hope y’all enjoy going on this journey with me.
Oh, where are my manners? My name is Kelly Amber, It’s nice to meet you.
